Abstract

This study examines the scientific relevance of Surah Ar-Rum : 24 from the perspectives of classical and modern exegesis, as well as atmospheric science and agronomy. Utilizing a library research method with a tahlili approach, this study compares the interpretations of exegetes such as Fakhruddin al-Razi in Tafsîr al-Kabîr wa Mafâtîḥ al-Ghayb with scientific findings on the role of lightning in nitrogen fixation, which contributes to soil fertility. The results indicate that the Quran has provided scientific indications of the relationship between lightning, rain, and soil fertility, a phenomenon confirmed by modern science through nitrogen oxidation in the atmosphere due to lightning strikes. Furthermore, classical and modern exegeses show different approaches to interpreting this verse, with classical tafsir focusing more on theological and metaphorical aspects, while modern interpretations relate it to scientific principles. This study contributes to strengthening the integration of Quranic exegesis and modern science, while also opening opportunities for further research on the correlation between natural phenomena in the Quran and empirical scientific knowledge.
