Abstract

The direct method is foreign language teaching which requires teachers and students to use the target language directly without the help of the mother tongue. The Audiolingual method is a method by listening to the language first, then giving an oral response without a visual component. The ability to speak is the ability to express sounds or words from the release of an idea, opinion, desire, or poetry.

In this study, 3 formulations of the problem: What is the effect of the direct method on improving the Arabic speaking Skills, and What is the effect of the Audiolingual Method on the Improvement of Arabic Speaking Skills, and  What is the effect of the Direct Method and the Audiolingual Method on the Improvement of the Skills to Speak Arabic of class XI students at Madrasah Aliyah Negri 10 Jombang?. The purpose of this research is that the researcher intends to find the most effective method between the two methods, so that the researcher knows the right method to improve students' speaking skills there.

This study uses the correlation method using the percentage and average formulas to formulate the first and second problems. To find out whether there is a relationship between the first and second formulations of this problem is to use the product moment formula, while data collection uses interview methods, documentation and online questionnaires.

The results of this study were that there was no effect of the Direct Method on students' Arabic speaking skills with the result T Count = 0.607 less than T Table = 1.071 and a significance level of 0.549 greater than 0.05. Whereas the Audiolingual Method affects students' Arabic speaking skills with the result T count = 3.553 which is greater than T table = 1.071 and a significance point of 0.001 is less than 0.05. And there is an influence between the direct method and the audiolingual method on students' Arabic speaking skills with the result that T count = 8.332 is greater than F table = 3.35 and a significance point of 0.002 is less than 0.05
